Rehearsal Dates and Time: Mondays from 5:15pm-6:15pm
Fall 2026 Schedule: Available Here
This year, the Greater Longview Children’s Choir is providing two choir classes that hope to accommodate all levels of singing. The directors will offer an informal evaluation to each student on the first day of rehearsal to determine placement. Both choirs will foster a fun learning environment, promote a love of music and friendships, and receive excellent instruction by highly qualified directors. To prepare for the first rehearsal, please tell your child that they will sing a familiar tune such as “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” or “Happy Birthday,” for a director. Additionally, they may be asked to sing a solfege scale. Range, pitch matching, and other music skills will be analyzed so each child can be placed in the choir that best meets their needs. Every student will receive a choir assignment for the semester. No child will be turned away based on skill. The directors will notify parents of choir placement before the second week of choir. Prelude Choir and Concert Choir will meet simultaneously.
Prelude Choir
Prelude Choir is designed to introduce children to the vocal and musical skills required for classical choral singing. Solfege, a music education method that uses DO-RE-MI, will be introduced and utilized from the beginning of the year. Basic music theory, aural skills, and sight-reading will also be taught. Performance repertoire will represent multiple languages and cultures as well as reinforce music history concepts. The director of the Prelude Choir is Meredith Ramos.
Concert Choir
Concert Choir is designed to provide an advanced choral opportunity for students with an extensive prior musical background. Students will be challenged with a higher degree of sight-reading and vocal proficiency. Repertoire selections will represent intermediate to advanced in regards to music theory, history, cultures, and language. The director of the Concert Choir is Lynette Vincent.
Teen Chorale
The Greater Longview Teen Chorale is a new vocal ensemble created especially for local teens who want to grow as singers, musicians, and members of a musical community. Whether a student is just beginning to discover their developing voice, navigating a changing voice, preparing for region music, or simply looking for a place to sing with friends, the Teen Chorale welcomes students across the full spectrum of musical experience. Singers will explore a wide variety of repertoire—from classical and international music to pop, musical theatre, and more—while developing healthy vocal technique, musicianship, confidence, and independence. Most importantly, the Teen Chorale is about joyful music-making, meaningful community, and helping young singers discover where their musical journey can take them. Join us for our inaugural year! The directors for the Teen Chorale are Dr. Matthew McKinnon and Meredith Ramos.
What about my junior high student? As this is our inaugural year of offering a choir for adolescents, we are grateful for your flexibility. If you have a 7th or 8th grader who is looking for more of a challenge, we invite you to consider enrolling them in the GLCCA Teen Chorale. Simply use the same registration form used for all choirs posted on the website, and send an email to meredith@longviewcca.com to specify that you would like for your child to participate in the Teen Chorale as a 7th or 8th grader. We encourage boys whose voices are in the latter stage of change, but all 7th and 8th graders are welcome to consider whether or not this is a better fit for them.
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.
